The Difference that Staging Makes (in Portland Or Anywhere Else)
After this 1987 home had been on the market for six months, our Portland OR home staging company was contacted by the sellers to stage it. Previous viewings had been sporadic and the feedback from potential buyers was that the house looked "dated." No problem ~ we know how to help update a home with suggestions for easy cosmetic improvements, followed by staging it with current furnishings that appeal to the target buyer!
Here are some Before & After photos of how we helped bring this home into the 21st century -- after the sellers completed the interior painting and some easy cosmetic fixes.
The kitchen nook needed new paint, replacing the light fixture, & removal of the valance

The dining room just needed paint, replacing the chandelier & removal of those dated window coverings

The living room had a challenging layout, but paint & removing the window coverings did the trick

Quick Tip: The brass fireplace screen & brass mirror dated this room ... it's easy to spray the screen with a matte black heat-resistant paint, and replace the mirror with art for a dramatic difference

The master bedroom just needed paint and removal of the dated window coverings to let in all the light

The seller emailed me afterwards: "Wow! Is this the same place?!! You did a wonderful job Maureen! We all agree that the staging played a big part in the sale! Thank you."
UPDATE: After six months on the market before staging, this Portland home deserved a few easy cosmetic improvements and professional home staging. Once staged, this home had a pending sale in just one month! If your Portland-area home or listing is lingering on the market, contact your local home staging experts for a staging consultation and proposal -- you'll be glad you did!

WOW - Night and day! Are you sure this is the same house Maureen? LOL. Outstanding work and why some buyer must have a professional stager come work with them!
Dated indeed, but you did an amazing job staging the house Maureen. Beautiful before and after photos..........what a huge difference, it doesn't even look like the same house........which is a good thing. LOL. Love the chairs with the nail heads that you added to the living room, nice touch.
Hi John ~ That's what the seller said LOL :-) Thanks for your kind words.
Hi Roger ~ Thanks! Those curved-back chairs with nailhead trim work in many areas, and they're easy to move around (a good thing for staging).
Maureen, I think it's time you moved to a warmer climate. I so love your work. I would hire you in a heartbeat.
Hi Tammie ~ Oh that sounds tempting!! It's only in the 30's here and I'm so cold .... thanks for your very kind comment :-)
Maureen ~ You absolutely transformed this property into an updated and appealing home for today's buyers. What a difference you've made!
Great Staging Project, Maureen, I like how you ensure that the outdated window treatments, lighting and paint go away!
Maureen: Those are some of the most simple, yet most dramatic changes and improvements I have seen in a staging in quite a while. It made such a major difference. Unfortunately, the sellers who think they can least affort it... are usually the ones who would benefit the most. What a great job !
Hi Barb ~ Staging does make a difference, as you well know! Thanks for commenting today.
Hi Beverly ~ It's pretty standard advice around here. Buyers see those things and think "if we buy this place there will be too much work to do ..." even though you and I know these are very simple "fixes."
Hi Karen Anne ~ Thanks so much for your kind words. Staging isn't expensive (at least my staging isn't) and sellers usually feel it's a great return on their investment.
Hey, I think I've seen that home in Minneapolis! Okay, everything looks fab-u-lous but the fireplace is what really needs to get into people's minds. They don't realize what painting the brass door will do and think it is no big deal. It is a big deal and you just showed it!
Hi Shar ~ I'm glad you noticed the painted fireplace! Those are SO easy to do and yet, as you said, people don't always think it's necessary.... but it makes a world of difference! I did the one in my own house this year just before I moved in and it was such an improvement from brass to black!
Very nice staging job, Maureen. I love a lot of the older homes in Portland.
Hi Shirley ~ Thanks for saying so! We're lucky that in Portland we have such a wide range of homes and styles ... from 1910 "Foursquares" to 1920's Craftsman style, Georgian-style colonials, Bungalows of various vintages, ranches, mid-century modern, contemporary, etc. I never get tired to my job because my staging projects ensure I visit many different home styles and I'm fascinated by the architecture of each one.
What a difference to what was a rather drab and dated house with those drapes and light fixtures. Great furniture choices too, looks fantastic as usual and has a much more contemporary feel to it.
Hi Maureen--after reading the seller's comments what else could I add. Another amazing transformation. I think the biggest wows are what you did to that living room, fireplace and all.
Maureen, I agree with the seller; you did a wonderful job. If I was the listing agent I'd be nervous the seller may decide to stay because the house looks so great.
Hi Cindy ~ The original custom drapes were expensive when new, but after 20 years they had to go so that we could let in more light to show the rooms. Thanks for stopping by to comment!
Hi Janet ~ Thanks -- The living room really did feel like a newer space! It was fun even for me to watch!
Hi Lloyd ~ In this case, they're just hoping for a quick sale :-) Thanks for your kind feedback!!
Absolutely gorgeous staging (as always). You really are a pro at transforming homes.
Congratulations. Your home staging is being featured in the group Staging Before and After Pictures.
Kathy
Smart sellers, smart agent and even smart stager. The comments from the sellers say it all. I had to smile at how the attempted to use that little table in two places in the house. Great work Maureen.
Hi Kathy ~ Thank you so much for your kind words and for the feature!
Hi Ginger ~ The sellers and their agent (who is someone I've worked with before) know that staging really works. Thanks for your support!!
Hi Maureen, I cannot believe the difference you can make in a room, just be removing the window treatments. What a great job by a very talented artist!
Hi Joanna ~ here in the gray Pacific Northwest, light is at a premium so we almost always suggest removing dated, taste-specific or complicated window coverings, 98% of the time. The effect afterwards is amazing. Even homeowners who've lived in a house for years will say "Wow! I never noticed that the windows looked that nice before or that they were covering up so much light." Of course, the windows have to professionally cleaned too. Thanks for joining into the conversation.
Maureen.....AMAZING changes in this home and proves again why your the BEST Portland has to offer in home staging! Any seller looking to update and SELL their home in the Portland area knows just who to call!
Hi Kathy ~ Thanks so much ... maybe I should hire you for my PR person :-)
Hi Maureen. Beautiful home staging. You do such great staging work that Portland is lucky to have you there.
Hi Wendy ~ that's so nice of you to say, thank you! I'm sure your clients in Winnipeg feel the same about you :-)
Hi Maureen,
Love your work! I just did the same thing with a dated fireplace in a home that I staged...from brass to black. Such a small thing but such a big transformation!
Hi Cathy ~ Those brass fireplace screens are SO dated looking. A quick spray with the right paint and the look is today!
Hi Maureen, I had to keep going back and forth between the photos. Hard to belive it is the same room. Love the pear artwork. That really creates a great focal point in the room. Super job.
Hi Michelle ~ Thanks for your feedback, isn't it fun to look at Before and After photos? I could do it all day long!!
