Which Home Would You Want to Live In?

portland home stagers

Our Portland Oregon home staging company often gets calls from Realtors or homeowners whose property has been on the market for months without a sale.  We ask about the feedback the home has received, and usually hear that the home appears dated or it didn't "feel" right to the potential buyers (another way of saying they just didn't like it).  After we've been hired, we provide our suggestions for cost-effective and easy cosmetic fixes to be completed, then we stage the house, including taking the photos for the online listing.

We recently staged this Portland home and think that the "Before" & "After" photos kind of speak for themselves ... would you  agree? portland OR home stagingFirst is the living room ...

I love staging, it makes for such a GREAT feeling in the house.  good job!

Hi Bruce & Sandy ~ Thanks!  We agree that staging can give a "feeling" in a home, which is important for buyers. Nice to hear that you believe in the powerful benefits of staging :-)

Maureen -

Which one would you want to eat Thanksgiving in?  Why, the one you staged so well, of course.  Even the turkey would feel better about being there.

Have a happy day.

Posted by Jim Hale - On the MOVE for You! Eugene - Springfield Oregon Real Estate (ACTIONAGENTS.NET) 6 months ago

Hi Jim ~ Good to hear from you!  I'd like to eat my turkey dinner in the staged home, too ... as a matter of fact, even the sellers (who have moved out of state) told me they'd like to live in the staged one :-)

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hi Maureen -

Holy Cow lady you really make a night and day difference!  Great job on the staging and on presenting the post in the Rain.

Best regards from the Q

Maureen, what a difference.  Using large pieces of art really anchored the furniture beautifully-there is no question that you are a pro and that even an "okay" house can be transformed.

Posted by Joanna Cohlan, Interior Design, Decorating & Staging Westchester County (Fresh Eyes For Your Home) 6 months ago

Thanks, Joanna.  I love to use larger-size art for just that reason, to anchor the furniture arrangement and enhance the setting.

Posted by Maureen Bray ~ Home Stager Portland OR ~ Home Staging Portland Oregon (Room Solutions Home Staging Portland OR) 6 months ago

I love the addition of the rug in the living room and the removal of the rug in the dining room!  All those scattered small pieces of art on the walls was distracting...so much better with the larger pieces!  Such a beautiful home!

Posted by Sharon Tara New Hampshire Home Stager (Sharon Tara Transformations) 6 months ago

Hi Sharon ~ The many small art pieces are, as you said, distracting from the home's best features.    Adding an area rug in the living room helped anchor the seating arrangement and added warmth, so I'm happy to hear you approve  :-)

You're right, this is a beautiful home but was not being presented in its best light.

Maureen....DRAMATIC difference!!  The Living Room was transported into this century!!  And the Dining Room is now an inviting place to relax and enjoy a meal!  WOW!!  What a difference a Staging Makes!!

Posted by Kathy Burke~S.F. East Bay Home Staging & Design ~ Danville to Oakland & Beyond (Sensational Home Staging & Design~~Danville, CA) 6 months ago

Hi Kathy ~ As professional stagers, we see time and time again that staging a home for buyers makes a difference.  Even though the house itself looks the same, the dated furnishings made the house look tired and not as move-in ready as the updated, staged version.

Posted by Maureen Bray ~ Home Stager Portland OR ~ Home Staging Portland Oregon (Room Solutions Home Staging Portland OR) 6 months ago

Maureen - lovely job all around, I know which home I would want to live in! oh right, it is the same home :) fantastic

Posted by Craig Daniels - Technology Instructor/Project Consultant (located NYC - remote assistance everywhere! :) 6 months ago

Maureen- excellent as always.  I love the color in the living room, was that the original color?  If so, then your staging, adding the panels, the pops of red really warm up the room and give it an updated look.  Great staging, Maureen!

Maureen -- I LOVE your 'afters'! What a transformation.  You certainly have the talent for adding pizazz to the very 'blah'. Those photos definitely DO speak for themselves.  Nice work!

Maureen, another proof that for the better results, owner has to move out and take his furniture with him ;-)

Beautiful transformation as always.

Hi Craig ~ Thanks for stopping by to comment :-)

Hi Kathy ~ the living room paint color is the same ... but the 'Before' photo lacked light ... thanks for your nice compliment.

Hi Barbara ~  Thanks so much for your kind words, it's much appreciated.

Hi Anna ~ You're right!  That's what it sometimes takes, doesn't it?   Either way, we're ready to help!

Okay Maureen, you know I love your staging.  I oogle at your every blog but I have to ask you, what did you do with those purple chairs?  :)D

I'll take door number two please!!!

Posted by Laura S. Baker, (920) 728-4118, Realtor ~ First Weber Group (South Central WI, bakerl@firstweber.com) 6 months ago

Hi Laura ~ The sellers removed their furnishings after the MLS photos were taken ... I'm glad you'll take door #2!!

(And frankly, if you'd said door #1, I'd have to sit down and have a serious talk with you LOL!!)

Posted by Maureen Bray ~ Home Stager Portland OR ~ Home Staging Portland Oregon (Room Solutions Home Staging Portland OR) 6 months ago

Hi Maureen--really, you don't think buyers would love those purple living room chairs or the navy blue area rug on the wall-to-wall carpet with the maroonish wall?  I had no idea!  Seriously, I knew there were new Maureen staging pictures coming and your work says it all.  It's gorgeous as ever.

Posted by Janet Jones, Kihei, Maui, Hawaii Home Staging/Interior Redesign (Just Your Style Interiors, LLC) 6 months ago

Wow Maureen...you don't need to even say a word in your blogs...you can just let the pictures tell the story!!  Amazing difference.  It's also interesting how much more open the living room appears just by getting rid of the  droopy valance.  Doesn't look like the same home!

Posted by Susan Harding (HomeStar Video Tours) Portland, Oregon 503-616-8973 6 months ago

Hi Janet ~ Thanks as always for your kind words and support ....

Hi Susan ~ I took away a few valances in this home and it let much more light in.  Glad you could see the difference :-)

What a difference a professional home stager makes now isn't it.  Nice work Maureen, as always.

100% improvement throughout!!  I would bet that the sellers are going to really enjoy their Thanksgiving living in what appears to be a NEW house before it quickly sells.  Top notch again Maureen!

Hi Ginger ~ They've already moved out ... the online photos were taken before that happened.  Hoping for a sale before long!  Thanks for stopping to comment.

Maureen, what a beautiful difference.  It does take a second pair of eyes and imagination to change things up, these changes are startling.  I love what you did.

Posted by Mary Stewart, Principal Broker/Realtor (OREGON FIRST, luxury homes, country homes, waterfront homes) 6 months ago

Hi Mary ~ I'm glad to hear that you like the changes.  it's so rewarding to give a home a fresh new look after the owners have moved out.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

Maureen-There is no question that your transformations help sell the property!!! I can'y wait to see you in Vegas (I might have to jump over walls.....watch out-lol)

Oh that coffee table before Maureen......never mind, I am going to leave it at that! LOL. Look at the difference and you didn't even have to paint!

Posted by Home Staging and Redesign Minneapolis/ St. Paul, MN - Shar Sitter (Rooms With Style) 6 months ago

Maureen - Can you see me shaking my head at the "before" photos?!!!  Thank heavens they called your staging company.  The "after" shots are amazing.  This house won't be sitting on the market very much longer at all, thanks to you!

Posted by Sally Weatherley-Exit Stage Right-Vancouver BC (EXIT STAGE RIGHT) 6 months ago

Hi Marianne ~ Great to hear from you, my wall-jumping-in-Vegas friend!!  I hope to see you there in early 2012  :-)

Hi Shar ~ Some things are better left unsaid!!  The paint colors in this home were easy to work with ... no problem there.

Hi Sally ~ Yes, I saw that, LOL!!  Thanks for your nice compliment. Fingers are crossed all around!

I miss a few days in the rain and click on your blog to see what you've been up to and once again I am blown away by your talent! To your point, the before/afters speak for themselves! You can say anything you want about what a great stager you are, but the proof is in our portfolios and you are the best Maureen and I'm always glad we're not competing in the same market - lol!

There are a lot of very talented stagers on AR, but you are one of the best! You took this dated, dreary home and transformed it into a beautiful, updated, warm, bright home that anyone can see themselves living in and that's the whole objective of staging. Kudos to you and another amazing transformation!
